This is the epic MTB race in the Utah. The course is designed by trail-building legend (he'll hate us for saying that!) Peter Laing, and has regularly been voted the best in the country.

Come and test yourself on a fantastic mix of natural singletrack, twin-track forest roads, ancient drove roads, hand-made singletrack, and trail centre. You'll visit the valleys of the Rivers Tweed, Yarrow and Ettrick, and of course, the high points in between. So, expect lung and thigh busting climbs that are rewarded with epic grin-inducing descents.

The race takes place on the steppes and mountains near the reservoir Bartogay. The varied terrain and weather conditions make this race a real challenge even for professional riders.

6:30-8:45 am  day of race Packet Pick- up at venue

6:40-6:50 – 100 Mile Line up and Racer Meeting

6:50-6:58 Opening Ceremony

7:00 AM  – 100 Mile Start

8:15 – 50 Mile Line up and Racer Meeting

8:25 – 50 Mile opening ceremony

8:30 AM  – 50 Mile Start ( last wave at 9 am – see below)

12:30 pm – post race meal begins

1:30-5:00 pm – Live Concert at Finish

2:00-6:00 pm – Awards Ceremony for 100 and 50 top finishers

Start times are staggered to spread out the field. Note the start times below and line up appropriately.

Any racer who crossing the finish line without their time stamped in the system will be assumed to be a DNF.

Age limits

1. No one under the age of 14 may race

2. To qualify to race we prefer you have done a race at least 40 miles in length in the past and you have pre-riden the course and provided proof. Note: NICA races alone do not qualify a minor to do this race regardless of standings

3. Racers between 14 -16 must submit a resume and proof of successful pre-ride( GPX or STRAVA Link finishing 8 hours or less)  or previous True Grit Epic finish.

4. ALL JR racers MUST submit a signed waiver from a parent no less than 2 weeks prior to race day.

All racers under 18 must have a chaperon on site watching out for their racing progress.

Ages are determined by the racers age on race day.

Race age

1. With the exception of the youth restrictions above, your race age is the age you will be turning in the present year. ie. if you are 49 on race day, but will turn 50 in may, you will race in the 50 + category.

Start

Starting times will be staggered. See schedule.  We use a gun start, and if you jump the gun you can be dnf’d or penalized the difference + 2 min. Jumping the gun is cheating

General rules and etiquette

1. Be responsible for your belongings and don’t throw trash on the trail.

2. Be nice to your fellow racers, always announce when you are passing and make sure they have a safe place to pull over, especially in the technical parts.

3. No short-cutting the course

4. Remember the desert is a fragile place, try to only pass when there is room, try to wait for a wide spot in the trail and try not to create unnecessary widening of our single track.

5. If you need to stop and take a break make sure you are well off course in a hardened area.

Kids ride free!

We want to encourage young riders to enjoy the pleasure of cycling. That's why all riders under 16 years ride for free when accompanied by a paying adult!

Online pre-entry

Online pre-entry is the easiest way of entering and saves $3.00 per person vs. entering on the day. Online pre-entry will save you time on the day of the event allowing you to simply pick up your registration pack from the 'Pre entered collection point' and avoid having to queue up.

On the day entry

On the day entries are available at all our events as long as the event has not sold out prior to the event day. On the day entries are subject to an additional $3.00 per person surcharge.
